The adopting Ripleys of Port Angeles are one of the examples chosen by Norman Vincent Peale's new book, ``The American Character.'' Ted and Merrily Ripley began in 1969 with three children of their own and didn't stop adopting until the family measured 22. Peale chose the family to illustrate generosity.
