Nurse arrested, accused of beating daughter, 13, with baseball bat

A McMinnville woman, accused of beating her 13-year-old daughter with a baseball bat, is in the Yamhill County jail on charges of second-degree assault and first-degree criminal mistreatment.

Anna T. Rufo, 66, a licensed practical nurse who works in McMinnville, was arrested Monday after McMinnville School District officials called police to report the girl's injuries.

The child was limping and had redness and severe swelling on her arms and legs, said Lt. Ken Summers of the Yamhill County Sheriff's Office. Doctors did not immediately take X-rays to check for broken bones because they wanted to let the swelling go down, Summers said.

Rufo adopted the child from China seven years ago. They lived alone at a residence on Baker Creek Road in McMinnville, Summers said.

The girl is in the custody of the Department of Human Services.
