Daughters Testify Against Father In Sex Abuse Case

Garden City Man Faces Up To Life In Prison

April 18, 2005

Two adopted daughters of a Garden City man testified at his preliminary exam on Monday that he sexually abused them, Local 4 reported.

Gary McCoy, 49, was charged earlier this month with first- and second-degree criminal sexual conduct.

McCoy's 14-year-old adopted daughter, whose identity was not revealed, described the abuse she said started about two years ago and continued until recently, the station reported.

"He would call me into his room, saying we're going to talk grades and how I should do better and then he would start to touch me and tickle me in places that he shouldn't," the teen said.

An older daughter of McCoy's, whose identity was also not revealed, told the courtroom that she was diagnosed with a heart condition when she was 10 years old and that McCoy would check her heart regularly with a stethoscope until she was 16.

"He would tell me that when he checked my heart I had to take my bra off so he could hear it better," she said.

McCoy (pictured, left), who was recently nominated as foster father of the year, has adopted seven children. The three who came forward with abuse allegations said they were molested starting at about age 14, Local 4 reported.

The man's attorney had no questions for the two who testified on Monday. He also withheld comment to Local 4.

McCoy is expected to return to court on May 2, where he will have the opportunity to testify on his own behalf, the station reported.

If convicted, McCoy could face up to life in prison.
