Many adoptive children often fear the possibility of an ongoing cycle of rejection, abandonment, and perhaps, betrayal. The fear of the unknown resides deep in the heart of any child living with unpredictable, unstable caregivers that yield to harmful impulsivity and atrocious activities such as sexual perversion.

On March 11, 1983, permanent custody was granted to veiled faces sworn to provide safety, protection, and spiritual covering to my delicate life. Very rare and abnormal circumstances occurred in my adoptive home. A secret mask held by a conventional family who appeared to follow accepted customs and standards of a traditional Christian home, will be uncovered.

In my book, I will take you on a journey through the primal betrayal I overcame and defeated by the Lord’s grace and love - a journey that describes the betrayal’s imposing thrust upon my life. Sacred Trust Betrayed, occurred during my early childhood as it does for most abused children.

My earnest prayer is that church leaders, social service workers, therapists, teachers, parents and everyone who has a direct impact in any child’s life will be motivated to gain a greater awareness of those who prey on female children.

My desire to become a child advocate began when I was young child. When I was three years old, I became eligible for adoption and was finally adopted when I was four. At that age I could not grasp the complexities of the entire process but I did understand a very simple reality, I needed a family to love me. As the years passed, through my own experience of exploitation and abuse, I started to notice the flaws in the system, by which I was seriously affected. Maturing in age, I developed a passion to professionally assist in procuring the physical and emotional health of as many children as possible. Discovering my capacity to succeed, I realized that portions of my destiny would involve prevention of child abuse.

My most intriguing experiences came after I graduated from college. I found myself faced with the responsibilities of adapting to a society where I received greater insight that knowing child abuse prevention was the next step I would endeavor to take. Becoming familiar with the child welfare system, family law and the Department of Human Services gave me a frame of reference for understanding individuals who share similar experiences. While encountering various child welfare cases I have had the opportunity to interact on a personal level with many children and families who are completely dependent upon the welfare system as it relates to their safety and well-being.

Broadening my view, I recognized the importance of providing healthy solutions to families and children who have stumbled upon the most malicious crime in our society, sexual exploitation of children. My hope is that the culmination of these experiences in social services and my personal growth in Christ has given me a firm base of strength on which to offer greater insight into the lives of sexually abused and abandoned children.

My undergraduate education from the University of Tulsa prepared me to take my first step toward my career goal and life’s work in Christ. My ultimate goal for my life’s work is to receive a license in professional counseling. The licensure in clinical social work will give me a venue to provide in-depth support by empowering people to move toward positive intrapersonal and interpersonal experiences, thus, creating opportunities for individuals to overcome oppression and recognize alternatives for improving their life and sphere of influence.
