Adoption Agency Could Lose License

public

FROM TIMES WIRE REPORTS

An adoption agency that violated an order not to place children with a Tulare County woman could lose its license, since the woman has been convicted of killing her adopted daughter, officials said.

The Department of Social Services wants to revoke the license for Modesto-based Family Connections Adoptions because Angela Thompson was found guilty of second-degree murder.

The agency was told in 1997 that letting Thompson adopt five children might “constitute a threat to the health and safety of the children.” But the agency proceeded.

Alison Sconyers, executive director of Family Connections, said the agency made a human error and had not willfully disregarded authority.
