from: Lakeland Ledger

Jacksonville - Authorities in Florida and Pennsylvania are conducting separate investigations into a New York adoption agency that allegedly recruited pregnant women and teens from this area and sold babies to the highest bidder, officials said.

The New York Attorney General's Office disclosed Wednesday that Jacksonville was a prime recruiting area of Childhaven of Northeastern-Pennsylvania. The agency sought out pregnant women willing to exchange their babies for cash.

The Florida Attorney General's Office has been investigating reports of baby selling for several months, said Trisha Spillan, a spokes-woman for Attorney General Bob Butterworth's office.
