Mother Accused Of Killing Adopted Daughters Goes On Trial Today

public

(Montgomery Co., MD) -- The murder trial begins today for Renee Bowman, the woman accused of killing her two adopted daughters and keeping their bodies in a freezer.

The jury trial will be held in Montgomery County.

Bowman is accused of killing the two girls while they lived in Montgomery County.

The bodies were discovered in 2008 at the family's home in Calvert County, after they had moved.

The girls, ages 9 and 11, had died of asphyxiation.

Bowman also faces child abuse charges in a separate case, following the discovery of Bowman's third adopted daughter, who police say had been severely abused.

All three girls were adopted from the District of Columbia.

One of the girl's biological fathers is suing the District for neglect, claiming it failed to check the background of Bowman before allowing her to adopt.

Michael Muhammad claims Renee Bowman should have been ineligible to adopt children because she had a history that included crime and financial difficulties.
