SCHUYLER, Neb. -- A former South Sioux City foster mother's arraignment on attempted murder and assault charges in Colfax County, Neb., was continued Tuesday, according to court officials. Tisha Vega will now appear in court Nov. 18 for a plea in abatement hearing.

Vega, 34, was scheduled to enter a plea Tuesday to felony charges of attempted murder and aiding and abetting an assault and strangulation in connection with the July 26 assault on Schuyler, Neb., resident Miguel Garcia.

Vega's husband, 42-year-old Carlos Vega, is also charged with attempted murder and aiding and abetting an assault and strangulation. His arraignment is scheduled for Nov. 18.

According to court documents, Carlos Vega told police someone had tried to rape his wife earlier that morning. However, the documents do not identify Garcia as that man.

Tisha Vega was sentenced Aug. 25 to up to two years in prison for two counts of child abuse suffered by the couple's 20-month-old foster son, Nathaniel Saunsoci-Mitchell, who died in 2006. A felony manslaughter charge was amended in a plea agreement with prosecutors.

The Vegas are being held at the Platte County, Neb., Jail in lieu of $750,000 bond.
