Milwaukee woman guilty of fatally beating baby

MILWAUKEE - A Milwaukee woman has been convicted of beating her 1-year-old nephew to death and severely abusing her 2-year-old niece.

On her 25th birthday, Crystal Keith was found guilty Thursday of one count of first-degree reckless homicide and one count of physical abusing a child.

The jury deliberated about 45 minutes before returning guilty verdicts.

According to the criminal complaint, a doctor described the girl as emaciated and said she had "obvious injuries from head to toe." An autopsy says the boy died from blunt force head injuries.

Keith's attorney didn't immediately return a message.

Keith faces up to 75 years in prison when she's sentenced July 7.

She told police her brother-in-law's children were placed with her in June because the mother was abusive.
