Business Briefs Barrett named giving director

Michael J. Barrett of Meriden has been promoted to director of annual giving at Quinnipiac College.

Barrett, who previously was director of alumni relations, will be responsible for planning, managing and executing programs to raise money for the college. He will solicit alumni, parents, friends of the college and businesses. He will also oversee the phone/mail solicitation program for the Quinnipiac College School of Law.

Barrett, a native of Warwick, R.I., holds a bachelor's degree in mass communications from Quinnipiac College. He is a member of the Quinnipiac College Athletic Hall of Fame. Before joining the staff at Quinnipiac in 1988, Barrett was a production assistant at ESPN.

Barrett is a member of the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education, Connecticut High School Coaches' Association and the board of directors of

A Child Among Us

, the Center for Adoption. He also is the men's hockey coach at Lyman Hall High School.
