VietNamNet Bridge – Deputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Khiem has requested that the relevant ministries and local authorities tighten administrative procedures relating to marriages between locals and foreigners, as well as other family matters such as adoptions.

According to the Government Office, the Deputy PM has tasked the Ministry of Justice with the drafting a document governing the adoption of Vietnamese children by foreigners for submission to the government in the first quarter of 2009.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been asked to direct Vietnam ’s representative agencies overseas to take the appropriate measures to protect the rights of Vietnamese nationals in all family matters, including marriage in accordance with the host countries’ laws and international treaties to which Vietnam is a signatory.

Relevant agencies have been also asked to develop a plan to offer consultation services regarding international marriages in Ho Chi Minh City, with the details of the plan to be submitted to the Prime Minister before the end of the second quarter of this year.

Municipal and provincial people’s committees have been requested to gather information regarding Vietnamese women who are married to foreigners and live abroad, and will provide this information to the public, thus contributing to ensuring that international marriages are healthy.

The Deputy PM also suggested that the Vietnamese Women’s Union expand its cooperation with legal organisations involved in international marriages in other countries.
