Update regarding Court appearance today

public

RELEASED TO MEDIA AT 11 AM ON WEDNESDAY 28 MAY 2008

Just an update on the Historic Abuse Enquiry for you as Claude James DONNELLY appeared in Jersey's Magistrate's Court today.

You will recall that Donnelly is the 2nd person charged in connection with the Historic Abuse Enquiry but his case does not relate to Haut de la Garenne. He was charged in late April this year.

He appeared today at the 10 am sitting for a few minutes and the case was remanded for a further 4 weeks until 25 June. He has not entered any pleas to the charges.

The details of the charges can be found in the News section of www.jersey.police.uk or please see the cut and paste below (scroll down)

At today's hearing, Donnelly was represented by Advocate Mike Preston and the prosecution was lead by Crown Advocate Stephen Baker. The court was presided over by Magistrate Ian Christmas.

During the short hearing, Crown Advocate Baker asked that:

1. A committal bundle is made ready by the other side

2. That the charges which the other side wish to proceed with are prepared and finalised

(this could mean that the original charges could change)

The prosecution have asked that this information is supplied to them by 11 June.

Donnelly is remanded on conditional bail and that conditional bail has been extended to 25 June, the next Court date.

Thank you
