Nearly 100 people call Jersey based historic abuse inquiry team

public

RELEASED TO MEDIA AT 16.35 PM ON THURSDAY 20 DECEMBER

NEARLY 100 people have called the Jersey based historical abuse team since the phone line was set up in November.

Last month, the team took 47 calls, while 45 calls have been received so far in December.

The team working on the inquiry are now contacting victims in order to get more detailed information from them.

Around 60 per cent of the calls have been from people in Jersey, while 40 per cent have come from other places, including Guernsey and the UK.

Victims who may not have contacted the team so far will still be able to do so over the Christmas period, or after if they prefer. The phone line will be open, and any messages will be checked for, on a daily basis, and calls returned. Anyone who wants to get in touch who has not done already is urged to do so.

The historical abuse inquiry team can be contacted locally on:

0800 735 7777

The phone number is available on both www.jersey.police.uk and www.gov.je/homeaffairs/police
