Review begins into Power suspension

THE suspension of police chief Graham Power over the way the historical child abuse investigation was handled by the police is now being considered in a review and in the Royal Court.

Home Affairs Minister Ian Le Marquand began a review on Friday into whether Mr Power should remain suspended from his job. He has been excluded from it since November.

Mr Power (pictured) was suspended from his post on the same day that it was revealed by deputy police chief David Warcup (now acting police chief) and the officer leading the inquiry, Det Supt Mick Gradwell, that no child murders had taken place at Haut de la Garenne.Nor were there children’s bodies hidden there.

Senator Le Marquand told the JEP on Friday after the review had taken place that he could not comment on it but that it had been adjourned until a future date. The issue goes to the Royal Court on Wednesday in a totally separate hearing before Commissioner Julian Clyde-Smith, when Mr Power will be applying for leave for a judicial review of the decision made about his suspension.
