A 43-year-old physical education teacher from Maplewood was arrested Wednesday for allegedly sexually assaulting his adopted son when he was a minor.
Essex County Prosecutor Clifford Minor said Stephen Pratt was charged with eight counts of aggravated sexual assault, four counts of sexual assault, and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.
Minor said that the alleged sexual assaults began after Pratt brought the boy, then 12, back from the Dominican Republic in November 1983. Pratt allegedly had the permission of the parents to take their son.
