Woman files libel lawsuit

public

Antonio Express-News

A libel lawsuit has been filed against News America Publishing Inc., doing business as the Express-News Corp., by a woman who contends she was damaged by a newspaper story a year ago.

Rosargentina Pinel-Cordova's suit alleges that the Nov. 9, 1990, San Antonio Express-News article implied she was involved in illegal adoptions, selling children for adoption purposes and engaging in visa fraud, each a crime under U.S. immigration and Texas laws.

The suit filed in state district court states she was not involved in any of the allegations.

Mark Cannan, attorney for the Express-News, declined to comment on the suit, except to say the petition is being reviewed by attorneys for News America and the Express-News.

Pinel-Cordova, a former honorary consul general for Honduras, asks for an unspecified amount of damages.
