Funeral Mass to celebrate the lives of Sheryl (Kesterson) Sueppel and Steve Sueppel and their children, Ethan, Seth, Mira and Eleanor will be at held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 29, at St. Mary's Catholic Church. The Rev. Ken Kuntz will officiate. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Friends may call after 3 p.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, where a vigil service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Sunday parking will apply for both the visitation and the funeral service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the University of Iowa Foundation for the Polycystic Kidney Disease Program at University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics or for UI Music Therapy Autism Research or for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation in memory of Sara O'Brien, a dear friend of Steve and Sheryl.

Sheryl was born Feb. 21, 1966, in Sioux City, Iowa, the daughter of John and Gisela Frey Kesterson. Sheryl was a graduate of City High School and the University of Iowa, with a bachelor's and master's degree in education.

Steve was born Aug. 13, 1965, in Iowa City, the son of William and Patricia Tierney Sueppel. Steve was a graduate of Regina High School and UNI, with a bachelor's degree in business.

Sheryl and Steve were married June 13, 1990, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Iowa City. They were blessed in adopting four wonderful children from South Korea.

Ethan, 10, was born Nov. 2, 1997. A fourth grader at Longfellow School, Ethan enjoyed golf, soccer and his cello.

Seth, 8, was born July 1, 1999. Seth, a second grader at Longfellow School, loved his rabbits, his music, especially his violin, and gardening. He participated in the UI Music Therapy Autism Research Program.

Mira, 5, was born March 25, 2002. A kindergartner at Longfellow School, Mira would have celebrated her 6th birthday this week. She loved to be the boss and had a sparkling personality.

Eleanor, 3, was born Oct. 31, 2004. She was the little princess. She loved to dress up, play with her Barbie dolls and wear her tights and tap shoes. She was a patient in the Polycystic Kidney Disease Program at UIHC.

Sheryl and Steve were loving and caring parents. Their families would like to extend their appreciation to all those friends who have been so supportive.

Sheryl and Steve and their children are survived by Sheryl's parents, Jack and Gisela Kesterson of Iowa City, and her brother, Dave (Trudi) Kesterson of Cedar Rapids; Steven's parents, William and Patricia Sueppel of Iowa City, and his siblings, Kathleen (Robert) Kerman of Arlington Heights, Ill., William J. (Cynthia) Sueppel of Cedar Rapids, Thomas (Karmel) Sueppel of West Des Moines, Sara (Thomas) Miano of Southlake, Texas, Kristen (Timothy) Hobday of Rochester, Minn., Richard Sueppel and Robert (Stacy) Sueppel, both of Iowa City; 24 nieces, nephews and cousins; and numerous extended family and friends, particularly Sheryl and Steve's longtime friends, Kathy Rutt Benge, Diane Hunter, Doug McDonald and Rod Lehnertz.
