St. Paul man is arrested in death of 7-month-old son

A 34-year-old man was arrested Wednesday in connection with the death of his 7-month-old son, who died at a hospital from head and internal injuries, the St. Paul Police Department reported.

The St. Paul man, who is being held in the Ramsey County jail, could be charged today or Friday by the Ramsey County attorney's office.

The Ramsey County medical examiner's office ruled the death a homicide Wednesday morning.

Officer Paul Schnell said the man brought the child, Gustavo Adolfo Hunt, to the emergency room at Children's Hospital at St. Paul about 5:20 p.m. Tuesday with ``a massive head injury.'' The father told doctors that the child, who died about 8 p.m., had fallen accidentally, Schnell said.

After interviewing the father, police arrested him about 2 a.m. Wednesday.

``The information he provided to investigators was not consistent with accidental injuries,'' Schnell said.

Schnell said the wife was not involved in the incident and was not home when the boy was injured.

He said there were no previous problems at the boy's residence and that the suspect has no criminal history. ``There is nothing to indicate this was an ongoing issue,'' Schnell said.
