Adoptive mom accused of banging tot's head on floor

A woman accused of turning her adopted baby upside down and repeatedly banging her head on the floor of her Mong Kok apartment has appeared in court.

Unemployed Chan Man-yum, 50, who is charged with child abuse, entered no plea yesterday at Kowloon City Magistrates' Court.

Her 11-month-old daughter remains in intensive care at Kwong Wah Hospital. The court heard that Chan adopted the child from the mainland seven months ago.

Prosecutors said a man saw the alleged abuse through the windows of Chan's flat.

Police were called and the girl was taken to hospital. NICKKITA LAU
