The Bexar County Sheriff's Criminal Investigative Unit is now looking into the death of a 3-year-old girl.

The little girl was rushed to the hospital after she stopped breathing and went into cardiac arrest.

Ino Badillo of the Bexar County Sheriff's Department said the parents of the 3-year-old told investigators their adopted daughter fell down the stairs in their home off of Highway 151 on the Far West Side.

"She had a bump to the forehead and treated it with Tylenol," Badillo said.

That night she was put to bed. The next day, Bexar County Sheriff's Office says the parents tried to get the 3-year-old up.

"They tried to wake her up," explained Badillo. "All she wanted to do was sleep, wouldn't wake up, didn't want to eat, had a fever of 103, and they treated the fever with Tylenol."

At that point, the stay-at-home dad called his partner at work. When he got home we're told they called 911.

The little girl was brought to Wilford Hall where she died.

"Because of the delay and the circumstances the death of a child, a 3-year-old unexpected injuries, our Criminal Investigative Unit was called, and they are investigating," Badillo told News 4 WOAI.

News 4 WOAI contacted Child Protective Services. A CPS spokesperson said they are investigating the case as well. But they added that the family has no history with the department.

The Bexar County Sheriff's Office says the investigation is standard procedure. They are still waiting for the autopsy results from the Medical Examiner's Office
