Death of 3-Year-Old Still Under Investigation

public

News 4 WOAI has uncovered more details in the surprise death of a 3-year-old girl.

The toddler's body has been at the Bexar County Medical Examiner's Office for about 2 weeks.

According to the Bexar County Sheriff's Office, the autopsy on the little girl has been completed. However, because of suspicious circumstances, the results of that autopsy will not be released until a special neuro-pathologist looks over the report.

According to her adoptive parents, 44-year-old Norberto Velasquez and 43-year-old Matthew Arandafell, the little girl fell down some stairs at their Northwest Bexar County home and never woke up.

News 4 WOAI's Ryan O'Donnell went to the home to try to talk to the two men, but no answered the door. Neighbors said the gay couple hasn't live at the home very long. The were also surprised to see a "For Sale" posted in the couple's front yard Thursday morning.

Velasquez and Aranda have 3 other adopted kids, two 5-year-olds and another 3-year-old. All three of the children have been temporarily taken away by Child Protective Services.

A custody hearing for the children is set for Friday morning.

A Sheriff's Office spokesperson told News 4 WOAI no charges in the case, if any are determined necessary, can be filed until the results of the autopsy are finalized.

Because there are only a handful of neuro-pathologists, the doctor scheduled to review the autopsy results is not expected in Bexar County until sometime in February.
