McMINNVILLE – A 66-year-old McMinnville nurse was arrested for allegedly beating her adopted teenage daughter with a baseball bat.

Anna T. Rufo was charged with assaulting her adopted 13-year-old daughter, said Yamhill County Sheriff Jack Crabtree. Rufo was lodged in the Yamhill County Jail.

The girl, whose name wasn’t released, was treated for injuries to her arms and legs. She did not have any broken bones. Detectives believe the teen was adopted from China as a baby.

“This case is particularly unfortunate because the suspect is a licensed practical nurse, who should know that help is available to distressed parents and their children,” Crabtree said.

He praised alert school officials for bringing the matter to detectives’ attention.

“McMinnville School District officials contacted my office, along with protective service caseworkers. Upon investigating the suspicious injuries to this child, the detectives determined that they were caused by the child’s mother. A physician who examined the injuries concurred with the investigators’ findings,” Crabtree said.
