Foster father held on $1 million bail

June 10, 2006

Redmond -- A Redmond foster father accused of molesting children in his care is being held in the King County Jail on $1 million bail. Enrique Fabregas, 52, was arrested Wednesday night during church-choir practice.

According to court documents, after a former foster daughter told police she had been sexually abused for several years, Redmond police in February searched his home and found pornographic photos and videos involving children. A 12-year-old adoptive daughter also said she was abused, police said.

The state Department of Social and Health Services said Friday there had been 23 previous complaints involving the home, eight of them alleging sexual abuse. DSHS was unable to substantiate the allegations, and the children were left in the home.

The department revoked Fabregas' foster-care license in 2004 after he refused to undergo a sexual-deviancy evaluation. At that point, the oldest girl and another foster child were removed from the home.

The adoptive girl lived with Fabregas until February and is now with a foster family.

Fabregas is expected to be formally charged Monday with numerous sex crimes.
