Troy woman appears in court on child endangerment charge

July 7, 2008

TROY, N.Y. -- A Troy woman charged with endangering the welfare of a child appeared in court on Monday.

Sharmon Evans, 51, was arrested back in May after her 11-year-old adopted son went to the Troy police station to report that he had been abused for years by Evans.

The report alleges Evans deprived the boy of food, beat him, made him eat his own feces, deprived him of his medication and made him sleep on the floor under a bed frame with no blankets.

District Attorney Rich McNally said a pre-plea investigation has been ordered, which will happen sometime next month.
