Big Bear woman arrested on suspicion of killing daughter; no body found

February 6, 2004

The Associated Press

(Big Bear City-AP) -- A 47-year-old woman who told relatives and friends her four-year-old daughter had been in Europe for two years has been arrested for killing the girl.

Authorities say Sharon Gill is scheduled to be arraigned today on charges she killed her adopted daughter Lillian in March 2002.

Gill is being held without bail in Rancho Cucamonga.

The girl's body has not been found but authorities say there is no doubt that the child is dead.

The motive for the killing is unclear and detectives are still trying to determine if Gill's husband -- 47-year-old John Gill -- is involved.

Authorities learned the girl was missing from Big Bear City in October after getting an anonymous tip that she may have been harmed. That's when relatives told detectives they believed Lillian was dead.
