BEND, Ore. - A couple who adopted 76 children, many of them disabled, pleaded not guilty yesterday to charges they mistreated many of them and allowed three to die from neglect.

Dennis and Diane Nason of Sisters, Ore., entered the pleas to a 27-count indictment that includes manslaughter, criminal mistreatment, forgery, theft and racketeering.

The Nasons became known around the nation as "The Celebration Family," the title of a book Diane Nason co-wrote about their religious mission to adopt unwanted children.
