A Lombard father who first blamed the family dog for fatally injuring his 21-day-old adopted daughter told a DuPage County judge Thursday that he accepts responsibility for her death.

"Every time I visit Alexis' grave, I know I'm the one that is responsible, that it's my fault," Bruce Keintz said before he was sentenced on a reckless conduct charge stemming from the infant's Feb. 24, 2001, death.

Keintz, 34, was convicted last November of the misdemeanor by a DuPage County jury that acquitted him of first-degree murder.

After Keintz spoke, Judge George Bakalis sentenced him to three months in the DuPage County Jail, followed by six months of work- release.
