http://mcgregorjourney.blogspot.com/2009/05/were-all-just-brooklyn-aka-life-is-kind.html

I've written to the blog's author and she wanted me to clarify that this information was given directly to her by her agency's (CHI) adoption consultants.

Thanks for the link.

This really is heartbreaking, although I think her estimate of hundreds of families is pretty high.

I hope it gets resolved soon so those families whose agencies did everything properly can get their kids home.

I can't imagine.

I also wanted to point out that this is specifically for cases where the children were abandoned in Addis. The subject line really startled me initially.

Sorry about that, I changed the post title. Still, everyone should know about it, whether it directly affects them or not.

I agree. Just because it doesn't affect us now, is not assurance it won't impact us in the future.

Paula,
I'd argue it does affect us now. The reality of fraud/suspected fraud in Ethiopian adoption is something I feel needs a personal response from me. (Reading the current thread on "The Lie We Love" give lots of food for thought on this issue - and I like ML's call to construct a response as PAPs, APs, and agencies).

The three month rule (now 2 month) regarding abandonment also started with just Addis.

What I was trying to say is that at this time it does not specifically impact our court date. When I saw this article, I was not even aware of the other thread.

I agree that all of these issues impact PAPs as a whole. Frankly, I am glad to see that they are taking these steps when there are issues that they become aware of.

As disappointed as I would be to be delayed, and heartbroken if I had to wait for another referral, I would want S to be with his first family if his information in regard to how he bacame an orphan was untrue.

OMG my heart just stopped reading this! My court date is 10 days from now.
What is this? It's not clear to me. What is the 3 or 2 month rule?

Charlie was relinquished in Addis.

Will this affect her court date?

Where is the link to a real news article or policy change? I'd rather read it there than on a blog.

After all this waiting and praying.... something like this just makes my heart stop and I'm so worried something will not go through at the last minute.

adopting1soon,

If your child was relinquished vs. abandoned, I don't think this applies to you. This would apply where there is no birth family to testify in court to validate the child's orphan status.
