Ukraine joins European Convention on Adoption of Children
On behalf of Ukraine, the Convention was signed by Justice Minister Mykola Onishchuk in Strassburg, France today in the presence of Deputy Secretary General of the Council of Europe Maud de Boer-Buquicchio.
According to the Family, Youth and Sport Ministry, 2,066 children were adopted, 1,587 - by foreigners, 2,351 children were placed into foster homes and to family care centres and tutorship was taken over 14,329 children. Ukraine is a member of the Council of Europe since 1995.
