Selling children
Motto: "Before becoming history and even before taking place, a lot of major events are prepared in laboratories"
There is again growing pressure on Romanian Officials to break the EU Moratorium on institutionalized children. As it is known, until issuing appropriate legislation and creating an efficient control system, the Nastase Government has decided to stop children from getting adopted by foreign families. There are no exceptions to the rule. The scandal caused a few months ago by Baroness Emma Nicholson also entitled to supervise this process to protect children has emphasized a dramatic reality: Romanian Officials have been caught between two sides. Whereas EU has decided interdiction we have freely assigned to, EU highest political leaders have taken just the opposite action, insisting around the Bucharest Executive. That is insisting to place children outside Romania, by breaking moratorium. Examples have been published by ZIUA and not only. To be honest, we must specify the same traffic of influence has been also used by USA congressmen. Pressure didn't cease, but has intensified and developed into diversity.
In the last months there has been nothing official on the adoption scandal. As if the fire had been put out, as well as its traces. What has been hidden? A reality that is terrible sometimes. The temporary interdiction to get children out of the country is not an EU whim. Romania is undoubtedly a poor country, with many children abandoned by their parents. Or having parents who are forbidden by Justice to raise children, on serious grounds. Not because of nationalism, it is preferable these children should be adopted by Romanians. This way they can develop against their native background.
Alienation itself is painful. But Romanian Officials claim the request is not in high enough number. Because of poverty too. Under these circumstances, admitting foreign adoptive parents is explainable. But what is the cause of interdiction then? Because the state, any state, is responsible for the fate of its citizens. Especially when they lack all protection. Just like children do. Romanian officials have failed to prove they have enough working criteria by which they can do preliminary investigations and then check whether the child is well taken care of or not. It is beyond any doubt that most requesters are well meaning. But there are enough cases showing children adopted in other purposes than getting good home and education. The sexual perverse ask for children too. As well as pedophiles, the sadistic and the gay. As well as the prostitution nets. We can add here slavery nets and organ smugglers. Until Romanian Officials set normative documents and control procedures, no child must leave this country.
This issue is worse than others in Romania are. Despite the great scandal a few months ago, we don't know about any punishment on those having broken the moratorium. No one was punished, although thousand children were illegally taken out of the country. This traffic involved public servants, lawyers, judges and prosecutors. But are any of them behind bars? Only if you are naive you think the requests involving so much money - one adoption can reach to more than 10,000 Euro - are honest and have got other purpose than exploiting children one way or another. The game is very expensive. So expensive that there is pressure, financial pressure included, on the press too. This is proved by the revealing we are publishing today. As I was saying, political pressure is also going on. By the way: Ambassador Guest, would you please stop your initiatives on adoptions? I am not charging you with being aware of how much you can indirectly harm some Romanian children and high public servants. On the contrary, I strongly believe you have been taken in by a good campaign set by adoption networks, with the help of well meaning families. But please say on more on the issue that is to be found a solution to way of partnership between EU and the Romanian Government. In the meantime you can find out why many US requesters have been rejected in their wish to adopt US children. Why would these families be worthy of Romanian children?
