A number of social centers and hospitals in HCM City will receive goods and equipment from foreign organizations.

Britain's Oxford University will donate the Tropical Diseases Hospital a lot of medicine worth US$4,200 for a brain disease research program and a lot of substances worth nearly US$25,500 for bird flu test.

Novastis Pharma Ltd. of Switzerlands will provide 12,000 Glivec tablets worth US$134,447 for the Blood Transfusion and Hematology Hospital to offer free treatment for the poor.

The HCM City Sponsorial Association for Poor Patients will receive a lot of second-hand equipment worth US$798,000 from Canada's Global Disability Foundation for delivery to the disabled in HCM City and other localities. They include 5,000 sick-beds, 5,000 wheelchairs and 4,000 pairs of crutches and other items.

The association will also receive 17 second-hand patient monitoring machines and spare parts from Quang Minh Temple in Australia to equip hospitals in HCM City.

The medical center of Binh Thanh District will receive second-hand medical equipment totaling US$435,700 thanks donated by the Vietnam Medical Development Support Association in France's Rhone-Alpes.

The South Korean social welfare organization Dail will fund VND6 million each month for the Gia Dinh People Hospital to provide free meals for poor patients.

In addition, the Thu Duc teenager village will get US$47,688 from the Pearl S Buck International (PSBI) of the United States to carry out a newborn orphan baby care project in two years starting December 2005, and US$3,000 from Italy's Azione Per Un Mondo Urits-Onlus Association (AMU) for its activities. AMU will also provide VND96 million for the Go Vap District Children Sponsor Center.

The Australian consul general will hand over VND95.6 million for the Chanh Phu Hoa social sponsor center to buy study equipment and games for kids.

The Tam Binh Children Center will receive 24,840 euro from the International Child Care Organization (ICCO) to grant scholarships for 69 children of the center's staff in two years. It will also receive US$27,500 from the Worldwide Orphans Foundation (WWO) to implement a training project for doctors and nurses involved in treatment of HIV/AIDS orphan children.
