Minister urges public to join hands in rehabilitating orphans, elderly

 Addis Ababa, November 17, 2008:  Dr. Tedros Adhanom urged the entire public to support the effort the government and other pertinent bodies are making to rehabilitate orphans and the elderly.Fund raising mass walk was held here in Addis Ababa on November 16 under the theme "I walk to discharge my responsibility" with the objective of constructing service rending centers for the elderly.  Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Tedros Adhanom, indicated that besides the activities being carried out to eradicate the problem from the onset, helping the elderly and rehabilitating orphans are essential matters.  The Mary Joy Aid Trough Development Organization General Manager, Sr. Zebider Zewde, said on her part, the mass walk was organized with the purpose of raising 6.5 million birr for the construction of a center that would play role to rehabilitate the elderly and orphans in a sustainable manner. Some 15,000 t-shirts and 2,500 pledge forms were distributed on the occasion to raise fund for the construction of the center.  The national defense and police marsh bands as well as a number of participants took part in the mass walk that also brought senior government officials, religious leaders, artists, athletes and representatives of various sectors together.
