Sonia's adoption

public

Debbie first came to Uganda in 1999 with Danyne to visit the children from African Children’s Choir, whom they traveled with from ‘95-‘97. During their time in Uganda they worked with Watoto Child Care ministry in Kampala for six months. Debbie has been returning to visit every two years and believing that the Lord would bring her back longer term. Her passion for children and Africa started at a young age. She was often seen holding babies in her arms and her interest for Africa came from close family friends and relatives who were missionaries in Africa.
During Debbie’s visit in the summer of ’03 Danyne and her father were discussing the possibility of starting up Amani Baby Cottage and asked her if she would be interested in helping out. Her heart immediately said Yes! This had been a desire for her for quite some time now to come back and work with abandoned children.
One of her favourite Bible verses is Psalm 37:4  “Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart”. God has fulfilled that desire for her.
Debbie has been working back home in Canada with special needs children for the past 13 years. She comes to us qualified to help with those children who are either physically or mentally delayed due to being born prematurely or malnourishment. Debbie has also been working in the area of administration and teaching preschool.
In August 2004 Debbie received irrevocable custody of Sonia who came to the babies’ home at the end of February. Debbie remained with us till March 25/05 when she and Sonia went home to Canada for 20 months. She and Sonia returned Nov. ‘06 and once again Debbie is working along in the administration field. They will remain at Amani until the completion of Sonia’s adoption which should be finalized by the end of 2007.
