NHRC seeks Chalimaya adoption papers
POST REPORT
KATHMANDU, Sept 1 - National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has asked the Ministry of Women, Children and Social Welfare to furnish details of the document of adopted child Chalimaya Gurung, who was sent for inter-country adoption after alleged fake documents were produced at the ministry by an orphan home in the capital.
Acting on a complaint received from the mother of the adopted eight-year-old child, Child Rights Protection Desk under NHRC demanded the document from the ministry through Central Child Welfare Committee (CCWC).
According to the complaint, Maya Gurung, mother of the child, had left her daughter at the orphanage --Aapas Ko Lagi Samaj located at Ratopul--before going abroad in search of a job. When she returned home after three years, she came to know that her daughter had been adopted by a foreign couple.
The Adoption Recommendation Comm-ittee, comprising secretary of the ministry and CCWC representatives, formally approves and makes the final decision on applications for inter-country adoption.
