Hadomi Timor Oan Children's Theatre

Hadomi Timor Oan Children's Theatre aims to raise awareness
in remote communities about fundamental issues impacting
upon the well being of East Timorese women and children.
The themes explored in the performances include, family
violence, family hygiene,
children's rights, the importance
of education, utilisation of health
care facilities, assisted child birth
/ breastfeeding and management
of childhood illness.
In July this year Mary Helen
Pirola from Melbourne with support
from Steve Payne visited
East Timor to begin finding and training East Timorese staff
for the implementation of the Hadomi Timor Oan Children's
Theatre project. There is now a team of 5 Timorese who have
been trained in theatre and prepared 30 orphans (6-16 years
old) from Fundasaun Hadomi Timor Oan, (East Timorese
Children Foundation), for their first performance on the 26
th
of August in Dili.
It is planned that the performance will travel to each of the13
districts of Timor-Leste.
