Devi's House

I am thrilled to announce the grand opening of the Mata Vaishno Devi Charitable Trust in Pune, India.  This new orphange is sponsored completely by CHI.  We are calling it Devi's House for short.  This small orphange will grow rapidly and will be the best facility of it's kind in India.  In addition to Devi's House, we are raising money to sponsor an HIV wing for orphaned children.  There is such a tremendous need for this facility.  For information on how you can help Devi's House, please contact me.

Our Summer get-together was held on July 13th in Orlando.  Thanks to Erin McGee and Debbie Comer for all the planning.  Everyone had a great time.  We hope to make this an annual event, with more activities planned next year.  Meena, 12 years old from Mahila, stayed the week with my family.  She was thrilled to see all of the babies she loved so much back in Pune.  More photos below.

News

India is increasing it's efforts to place children in loving homes in India and with foreign families of Indian heritage.  This is causing referral times for foreign families with no Indian heritage to lengthen substantially.  The red tape and longer waiting periods may seem daunting at first, but India has never had a complete shutdown like many countries are currently experiencing.  We are accepting a few new applications for families that do not have Indian heritage.  NOTE: WE ARE STILL ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR NRI FAMILIES (families with Indian Heritage).

CARA is stopping most, if not all escorts.  We must plan on all families traveling.  Only one parent must travel, and only for a few days.  I will keep you updated on this.

I am going to India in October to attend the Indian Council of Child Welfare's conference in New Delhi.  I'll have an update for you as soon as I return.

Nepal - here is some very exciting news.  CHI now has a Nepal adoption program.  Our orphanage OCCED/Nepal is in Kathmandu, Nepal.  Nepal places mostly boys for foreign adoption.  If a family qualifies for a Nepalese adoption, they can be on our India and Nepal waiting lists at the same time.  I will have photos of our Nepal orphanage next week.
