We need your help!

As many of you already know, the Baroness Nicholson and the EU were

successful in shutting down Romania adoptions permanently. This not

only affects Romania children, but could affect affect all

international adoptions in the future.  In a recent speech, the

Baroness has already indicated that she is now looking at the children

in Bulgaria!  We have to protect the children from this woman and her

goal to give them life sentences!

As both an agency director and an adoptive parent children I am

appalled at the changes to the Romanian draft laws.   This law is

contrary to the Convention on the Rights of the Child and the Hague

Convention.  At the beginning of February I went to Washington with a

few other people and met with Congressional leaders, the Romanian

Consulate and the Congressional Coalition on Adoption. Since those

meetings there have been several attempts though diplomatic channels to

make suggestions on changes to this law, bringing it in line with

international tenets.  It appears that these efforts have been

unsuccessful.

There is a small group of people who are interested in formally taking

our concern for the Romanian orphans to the general public and media.

We are hoping to hold a demonstration in Washington on Monday, March

29th in the afternoon in front of the Romanian Consulate.  We would

then hold a second demonstration in front of the EU Consulate the

morning of Tuesday, March 30th.

In order for this type of demonstration to be successful we need

people, lots of them....  Please e-mail me if you are willing to join

us.  We need to get an idea of how many people will attend, and we need

to do so quickly so that we can get the necessary demonstration

permits.  We also need any connections any of you have to either the

American, British or Romanian media.

We are eager to get any adoptive parent wishing to make a difference to

join us!  At this point, the issue has to get media attention to let

the world know what is happening to the children of Eastern Europe.

Please e-mail myself, or

Lynn

Wetterberg immediately if you are

interested in joining us or have any information to share.
