Girl adopted by Gary Keith Vaughan was sexually abused by her adoptive father from age 10 until just before her 19th birthday. In 1998, Vaughan was convicted to two life terms, but was granted a new trial because of an incompetent lawyer, and eventually spent about 20 months in custody.

In June 2011, Vaughan was found guilty sexually molesting three of his step children while living in Hawaii.
