Oconto Co. Child Neglect Case

An Oconto County couple is in trouble for allegedly neglecting their adopted Guatemalan child. 61-year old David Carpenter and his wife 54-year old Jan Carpenter of Oconto will both have to spend five-years on probation and 14-days in jail. In October of 2009, the Carpenters reportedly took their then three-year-old adopted daughter to Bay Area Medical Center in Marinette before the child was transferred to a Milwaukee Hospital. Doctors there say the infant was suffering from severe malnutrition and seizures. The 14-day jail sentence for the Carpenters corresponds to the number of days the child was hospitalized.
