exposing the dark side of adoption

What's taking place in that adoptive home?

public

Over the years I have heard story after story of bizarre adoptive parenting behaviors that does NOT make the news.

Most stories came from adoptees, with stories that would include:

  • Creepy infertile over-possessive Amom who does not let her adopted son leave her side
  • Jealous Amom who resents the attention her spouse gives the new adopted addition
  • Adad who wants to teach the adopted daughter a lesson or two in sex
  • Forced upon birth-country cultural events, as a means to maintain a foreign cultural identity in the whitest regions of middle-America

But lately I have been hearing from APs, too.  Why, whether one is an adoptee or AP, it seems as if we all know at least one set of strange APs, but are too afraid to talk about them in public because it would ruin the adoption myth that ALL APs are stable, loving, and not a danger to kids.

Most recently I have had the following added to my list:

  • APs who put hydrocortisone cream on the child to..."whiten" him
  • APs that use melatonin 5mg to put their adoptive kids to sleep.
  • APs who give their kids growth hormones because they don't like that their adoptees are short, even though short stature is common in the child's birth-country and their biomom was like 4'2''.
  • APs who wax body hair off their 5 year old Guat adoptee because they just don't look like the other kids.

Any other bizarre happenings or complaints in Ahomes people touched by adoption ought to know about?
