7 year old girl adopted from China 5 years earlier was strangled by her adoptive mother. Kathrine Dufresne, aka Kathy Fitzpatrick, had self inflicted wounds when the 2 were discovered by the father (apparent failed murder-suicide). Dufresne was charged with murder but committed suicide in custody prior to the trial.
Shanda Lou Yenglin, a single mother, adopted four children (2 boys and 2 girls) from foster care.She had a history of substantiated abuse and neglect of her children dating to 2002, She hit one boy in the head with a wrench, other children were having their hair pulled, being hit with hangers, and being pushed against the walls.One boy was slammed onto the bathroom floor with enough force to crack his three front teeth. She did not seek dental repair until the following day, when she instructed the boy to tell the dentist he slipped and fell.
Yenglin lost temporary custody of the four children in May 2010 amid an investigation by the state Department of Human Services, but was nevertheless allowed unsupervised visits. During the third visit, Yenglin gave the children drug-laced milkshakes and led them out to sleep in a minivan running inside a closed garage. Shanda Lou Yenglin managed to kill herself from carbon-monoxide poisoning. The four children survived.

Holly, 15 and Nicole, 14, adopted as infants in Korea, were shot to death by their adoptive father James Cooke because they were going to report James was sexually abusing the girls. The girls were originally adopted by Lois and Tom O'Connor, after they divorced Lois married James Cooke and he adopted the girls. James taped a phone call made by Lois explaining she and the girls were going to report the sexual abuse formally on Monday. James killed Lois, Holly, Nicole, and then shot himself.

Two 11-year-old girls adopted from China were stabbed by their adoptive mother, Sylvia Sieferman. Hannah was adopted in March 1999 (2.5 yrs) in Nanning; Linnea in Sept 2003 (6 yrs). Sylvia was hospitalized 2 months prior to the event because of her fears she would hurt herself or the girls. After the attempted murder suicide, Sylvia Sieferman, pleaded guilt to 2 counts of attempted murder.
11 year old girl adopted by her grand parents Charles and Rita Mensinger. After having shot her husband Mensinger fled, bringing Chelsea with her. She later shot Chelsea and herself. Charles Mensinger survived his wife's attack on him.
Two 11-year-olds, adopted at age 7 in Russia, by Richard and Gienia Kolenda, died in 2002--nearly five years after their arrival in America. Their adoptive father stabbed them and his wife to death at their home in Westfield, Mass., then fatally shot himself. The Kolenda's were both Polish immigrants, and had financial troubles.
Steven Sueppel, indicted for embezzling from the bank that he worked for, killed himself, his wife Sheryl, and their four adopted Korean children, Ethan (10), Seth (7), Mira (5), and Eleanor (3),in Iowa City, Iowa. Seth was on the autism spectrum and Eleanor had Polycystic Kidney Disease. Mrs Sueppel and the children were beaten to death with a baseball bat then Steven died in a deliberate car wreck.
