I think it's safe to say each one of us has hidden fears and insecurities within us. In fact, I cannot imagine anyone being so perfect that deep inside there isn't s single fear related to weakness or personal flaw. [Of course, I could be wrong...!]

My question is, how does the person imobilized by mistrust get over the feelings of fear and angry panic, especially when "change" means "more of the same"?

For many years, I've been reading letters and having conversations with people who have witnessed and endured horrible things during their childhood. Adopted or not, child abuse is a shame that belongs to the adults, not children. Unfortunately, the secrecy adults demand from those they hurt make the pain of betrayal even more confusing and difficult. Where is the escape and relief, if the source of pain can't be revealed or exposed?

A common theme written and spoken to me by many has been sexual-strangeness, and finding identity among others. For the abused adoptee, this can become further complicated as tons of associations can become made with gender and sex.

I was wondering how many adults relate to being seen as strange or having a sense of questioned sexual orientation, simply because they don't "fit" a certain profile among their own peers?

Are our mothers responsible for our sense of sexual safety -- if not, who is?

Let's say a mother learns her child discovered sexual pleasure at an early age, and knows orgasm can be found through different acts and can be done many ways. Does that make the child an over-sexed pervert? Is "childhood" over for that mother?

What if that child learns sexual pleasure at an early age, and learns the lessons of orgasm through an adult, or family member. Does that qualify as being sexual abuse, and needs to be reported to the authorities?

Couples talk about "couple time" and I think we all know what that means. It means they want to be left alone so they can have sex.

Well, I'm not part of a couple, and I was molested and raped by a so-called family-members, so sex has always been a freaky-issue with me. It wasn't until I was in my twenty's that friends of mine started talking about masturbation.

I'm curious... from a birth-parent's perspective, during the Search and Reunion process, would you want to be told your child was abused by his/her adoptive family?

As a parent, what would you do if you learned the child you relinquished was abused or abandoned by the adoptive parents?

Since Adoption is a legal course of action, (based on a child's need for safe protection), what laws are there written about a foster/adopted child's right to live in a safe environment where he/she will have guarded protection from child predators?
