Convicted Murderer Wants New Trial

DOTHAN, AL - A Houston County woman facing the death penalty for killing her daughter wants a new trial.

43-year-old Patricia Blackmon was arrested in 1999 for the beating death of her 2-year-old adopted child. She was convicted and sentenced to death in 2002.

Attorneys for Blackmon were in court Tuesday. They say their client should be taken off death row and get a new trial.

Blackmon's lawyers say her original attorneys were ineffective.

The judge did not rule on the motion. The hearing will resume at a later date.
