Girl Kept As Sex Slave By Couple

FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich., A Farmington Hills couple has been charged with keeping a girl as a slave for three years.

Joseph and Evelyn Djoumessi face charges of forging documents, kidnapping and sexually assaulting the now 17-year-old girl. She was 14 at the time the incidents began.

Police say the girl was brought here from Africa and told she would get a good education and a nice place to live.

"She was kept in a basement and a dimly lighted room, and provided just enough food to get by on, and she was not allowed to leave the home," said William Dwyer, chief of police at Farmington Hills.

Joseph Djoumessi was arrested in California where he currently works. He is expected to be extradited to Michigan next week. Evelyn Djoumessi is being held on a $1 million bond.
