Natural sense

blanche's picture

are we born with a natural sense of what's right and what's wrong?

even if a parent does something bad

do we follow along

just because we're told to

because we're scared?

Spite and empathy

I am afraid we learn right from wrong the hard way and when taught wrong many of us will do as they are told/taught. Look how many German children were forced to join the Hitler Jugent before and during the second world war and how they learned to hate jews. Fortunately we do develop a sense of empathy too, so we get a chance to figure out not to do to others what we don't want done to us. Though looking around I see more spite than empathy.

cowards

those who are afraid to be beaten are afraid to stand and make strong statements

empathy goes to those who die trying

sympathy is snickered to those still lying

neutrality is nothing more than being neutered

Future Interests

I strongly believe the opposite of love is not hate, it's apathy.

Passion is driven by compassion or greedy jealousy.

Those gifted with wisdom (age/experience) have the natural ability to discern the difference between the two.

When does such a bottom line really matter?  Only when the future matters.... like keeping a good job or raising your own family...
Sometimes, life can be just THAT simple.

stress and its effects

Doesn't stress have an effect on us in a way that makes stong-minded people weak with fear?

"Fight or Flight"  right?  (Oh no, I'm starting to do that poetry crap-thing!)

At some point, maybe after so much stress and strain, the chemicals wear-off  and a person comes to his senses and realizes, "I have a choice to make here".

Maybe that's what makes the difference between saint and sinner -- that final choice based on doing what's right and what's wrong.

If it hurts or harms another person, surely, that's the wrong thing to do, right?
