PENSACOLA, Fla. (WALA) - The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office arrested a library assistant at Ensley Elementary School on the job for domestic violence charges against a child.
Dorothea Vega, 59, was arrested for battery, cruelty toward a child, punishing or caging a child and cruelty toward a child through action that could result in physical mental injury.
Investigators said Vega hit a child with household objects and forced the child to take prescription drugs to control their behavior. They said the child was forced to stay in their room if they were not doing chores and alarms had been installed on the door.
If the alarms went off, Vega beat the child, authorities said.
The ECSO says the home’s conditions were deplorable and the child was not permitted to bathe or eat sometimes and would bathe at a school’s restroom.
Vega is in the Escambia County Jail with no bond.
