FAIRBANKS — A North Pole man was sentenced to 25 years in jail Monday for routinely sexually assaulting young adopted brothers and sisters during a 13-year period.

During sentencing, Superior Court Judge Randy Olsen said the case of Rolin Allison Jr., 45, was among the worst he has seen in his 35-year career.

As a man in his 20s, Allison sexually abused four younger adopted siblings between the ages of 4 and adult, according to the case that was brought against him. He also abused a neighbor child who came into contact with him during a hide-and-seek game.

He was charged in November after one of his victim’s came forward. He entered a plea agreement that involved pleading guilty to eight of 37 charges in May.

At Monday’s hearing, Allison initially indicated he wanted to withdraw his guilty plea and left the courtroom with Assistant Public Defender Justin Racette. When they returned, Racette said they were ready to continue with sentencing.

Allison said he had no comments to make to the court before the sentence was imposed. About a dozen supporters of the victims came to the hearing and some chose to speak. Two victims, now an adult man and woman, told the courtroom Allison’s abuse continues to affect them. A man who said he was the father of two of the victims turned to confront an unresponsive Allison at the end of the hearing.

“You had no reason to hurt my children. How could you do that to them? And not even so much as an apology,” he said. “I hope you can take this wherever you go and may the Lord have mercy on your soul.”

Assistant District Attorney Gayle Garrigues said she would have liked to have subjected Allison to more jail time. The final sentence was limited by the fact that he was charged under laws that were not as tough on child sexual abuse as today’s laws, she said.
