Adopted Daughter Takes Stand In Day 2 Of Scott Dean Trial

public

**UPDATED at 6:37 P.M. on December 14th***

A jury now must decide the fate of the former Columbia County commissioner accused of molesting one of his adopted daughters. Closing arguments wrapped up this afternoon.

News Channel 6's Cory McGinnis is live in Evans tonight. The jury was sent home for the day before it could reach a verdict.

Before the case was put in the hands of that jury, we heard more from Scott Dean himself.

Dean began the day on the stand and admitted to walking around his house in a towel in front of his daughters, but he was adamant that he never sexually abused any of the girls.

Dean's defense attorney, Pete Theodocion, tried to introduce character evidence that dean has worked with many kids as a youth minister at First Baptist Church of Harlem. Judge James Blanchard was initially hesitant to allow that evidence, but did allow it when Theodocion argued that he had to prove his case.

Prosecutors claim that dean told state child service workers "when all this is over, heads will roll." And Dean said he did not remember saying that but that it could have been true. Dean also testified that he was hurt by the allegations against him and even tried to commit suicide, but that a friend stopped him.

(Scott Dean/Accused of Child Molestation) " Scott Dean She took the gun out of my hands, when I was going to take my life, when I was depressed, over this."

After Dean testified, Georgia State Representative Ben Harbin took the stand as a character witness in Dean's defense.

Dean's adopted 17 year-old daughter testified that she told the truth in a televised interview where she said the allegations against her father were false.

Jurors will get to sleep on the case, and will be back in the morning to continue their deliberations.

UPDATED: Day 2 Of Scott Dean Child Molestation Trial

Testimony continues in the child molestation trial of former Columbia County Commissioner Scott Dean, who is accused of molesting his adopted daughter. WJBF News Channel 6 has been covering the trial and has more on Tuesday's developments from outside the Columbia County Courthouse..

Tuesday, two of former Columbia County Commissioner Scott Dean's adopted daughters took the stand in his trial, on an emotional day of testimony.

The alleged victim in the case took the stand for the first time.

We won't show you her testimony, but we can tell you that she testified that dean touched her genitals and told her he wanted to have sex with her, even though she knew that was wrong.

The girl also told prosecutors that her other siblings were in the room when he touched her. Dean's youngest daughter testified that she pretended to be asleep, but knew Dean was in the room during the alleged crimes.

The jury also heard from a forensic interviewer, Kimberly Lee, who told the jury what the girl told her happened.

Also taking the stand Tuesday was a woman who claims she was assaulted by Dean 27 years ago at a birthday party, when he was a teenager.

Dean's attorney spent the day trying to prove that the victim in this case has a history of lying.

At one point, Dean even took the stand, and could be seen crying while he testified about the process of adopting the five Guatemalan siblings.

We will continue to follow the trial until there is a verdict.

An adopted daughter of former Columbia County Commissioner and Harlem mayor, Scott Dean, takes the stand in his trial for child molestation.

This is the first time 17-year-old victim detailed some of the improper contact Dean is accused of:

17-year-old victim: "I was in the room, he came in (pause) layed down next to me and started touching me."

Prosecution: "What part of the body did he touch you?"

Victim: "My legs and my genitals."

Prosecution: "Was it on your skin or clothes?"

Victim: "My skin."

Prosecution: "What happened when he came into the room?"

Victim: "He told me he wants to have sex with me. I told him that it wasn't right."

The victim stated even others (siblings) were in the same room when he touched her, but no one was awake.

The jury is out as the judge in the Scott Dean trial looks at past cases.

the victim also described a "boyfriend-girlfriend" type hug between Dean and the oldest of the family's adopted children. Defense lawyers countered by getting the witness to admit to a difficult relationship with Dean's wife, Renee.

They are also trying to show a pattern of lying.
