Moscow calls to suspend adoption of Russian children by US citizens

Date: 2012-02-11

In a statement issued on its web site on Saturday, Russia’s Foreign Ministry suggests suspending adoption of Russian children by US citizens amid increasing number of child cruelty cases there.

The statement reads that adoption should be suspended until the Russia-US international adoption agreement signed on July 13, 2011, comes into force.

Moscow also condemns a ‘too mild’ sentence to Theresa McNulty, who was found guilty of regularly beating her 3-year-old adopted Russian daughter Dasha and was sentenced to 23 months in prison with possibility of release within 8 months.
