public

A couple from Scotland have denied 49 charges of assault at the former Jersey children's home Haut de la Garenne.

Morag Jordan, 62 from Kirriemuir, Angus, faces 35 charges of common assault while her husband, Anthony Jordon faces 14 counts.

Both denied the charges at the Royal Court on Jersey and will face a trial. A date has not yet been set.

They remain on conditional bail and must stay at their home address in Scotland.

Three year investigation

The court heard that the allegations included pushing children's faces into urine, dragging by the hair and hitting with a metal ladle, between 1970 and 1984.

An investigation into abuse at the children's home started three years ago.

Six women and six men made the allegations of abuse.

Mrs Jordan began working at Haut de la Garenne in 1970 and Mr Jordan in 1978. Both left in 1984.

Several people have already been charged during the investigation.
